Juan Carlos is a highly accomplished saxophonist with a Master’s degree in Classical Saxophone Performance from the University of the Arts Helsinki (Sibelius Academy of Finland) and both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Saxophone Performance from the Superior Conservatory of Salamanca (Spain). With extensive teaching and group managing experience at the conservatory and university level, Juan Carlos is currently the director of an after-school band program for the Fairfield School District. He has taught master classes in various European countries, including Norway, Finland, and Spain, and has also been invited to teach in the United States, with notable engagements at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, and the American University in Washington, DC. His performance resume includes concerts at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and a recent recital at the International Saxophone Symposium hosted by the United States Navy Band in Fairfax, VA. Juan Carlos has performed across Europe, including in Norway, Denmark, Latvia, Andorra, and Croatia. In 2021, he was a semi-finalist in the prestigious 3rd International Saxophone Competition in honor of Josip Nochta in Zagreb, Croatia. His research on the fusion of Spanish flamenco and Arabic music showcases his dedication to exploring diverse musical traditions. Believing that every student is unique and deserves an inspiring learning environment, Juan Carlos creates classrooms where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to explore their interests. He aims to provide personalized learning experiences that help each child discover their strengths and reach their full potential. Juan Carlos is excited to bring his expertise in saxophone, clarinet, and flute performance, along with his experience as a creative arts educator, to Music Lab Davis.
